Optimist Basketball League
Use of Piper USD 203 Gyms
The following are guidelines to make your league’s use of Piper East, Middle and West gyms run smoothly:
School activities / functions have priority over community (i.e. Optimist) use according to the Board of Education policy. Even though YOUR team is
scheduled to have practice on a certain date/time, it may be “bumped” by an updated school activity/function. This does not happen often and YOU will be notified by your Optimist representative as soon as possible of the scheduling conflict.
If school is scheduled to be out, dismissed early or cancelled for any reason – practice CANNOT be held.
Liability – the Optimist organization has limited liability coverage. The coverage will not be extended to individuals involved in a careless act (i.e.
climbing on walls, sliding down stair rails, jumping off bleacher seats, etc.) or involved in intentional damage to the facility. As Coach, YOU are responsible for the activities of YOUR PLAYERS and ANY PERSONS ACCOMPANYING THEM into the gym. It
is recommended that siblings and school-age friends not attend practice if not actively participating in the practice.
Entry into gym:
Piper East - through the northwest doors (west side of building, north set of doors) that enter the hallway next to the gym
Piper Middle – through the north doors.
Piper West – through the double doors on the east side of the building closest to the gym entrance
Classroom / bulletin boards – please remember that both gyms are classrooms and should be treated as such. Be careful of posters and other items hung on
the bulletin boards. You are responsible for the actions of YOUR players and their family members. Do not allow players, etc. to play basketball in the hallways.
Cleaning - a floor mop, brush, dust pan and waste basket will be provided in each gym for YOUR use to clean the floor at YOUR discretion between practices
/ games. Please do not sweep the dirt into a corner or down the steps, but dispose of it in the waste basket. Be sure to pick up trash generated by YOUR players and family members and place into the waste baskets.
Care of gym floor – to keep the finish on the basketball courts looking nice and in good condition, encourage YOUR players to put on their basketball
shoes AFTER they get inside the gym. This will keep their shoes free of grit, sand and water (snow) which can damage the finish on the court and also cause harm to a player by slipping.
If you have any questions / concerns regarding your team’s use of the gym(s), please contact your Optimist representative for basketball,
